Twisted Pixels

This approach grew out of an exercise suggested by Jan Malaszek at Putney School of Art which was deigned to focus on colour by reducing an image to basic squares or pixels. I started with the Vermeer (bottom left) and then developed it to break the rules slightly in – hopefully – interesting ways. All of them are wild on canvas. Painting them can be quite relaxing – like crochet or doing a jigsaw, but I only tend to do one a year as the rigour of sticking to the (self-imposed) rules can get frustrating towards the end of a painting.
